Finding the Perfect Antique Medicine Cabinet
There are many styles of antique and vintage medicine cabinets. Many of them made by hand by local cabinet makers or the homeowner himself. Some are polished while others have a painted finish. Some have mirrors and others have simple wood or glass doors.

Some terms you should be familiar with are:

    
* Eastlake - This is a Victorian style has a lot of carving and detail.
    
* Inset (or recessed) - The cabinet is mounted on a wall space, so the door is flush with the wall.

How to restore a medicine cabinet
If you find a firm that you love but are in poor condition, do not despair! You might be able to restore the previous beauty without too much trouble. Just do what you want, though. You may want to leave the original color, although it is peeling, or to remove damaged cornice without replacement.

   
1. Check the joints and make sure they are safe and that the wood is rotted
   
2. Missing pieces can often be found and replaced
   
3. Mirrors and glass can be reused, silvered and / or replaced
   
4. Remove the old hardware and door
   
5. Remove formatting if it is in poor condition
   
6. Strip any color to be removed
   
7. Check the corners and bring the cabinet back to square wood glue, nails and clamps
   
8. Sand until smooth
   
9. Add new configuration if it replaces
  
10. Paint or stain
  
11. Replace doors and hardware
  
12. Hang or fit the cabinet in the appropriate space
